Marcelo Wong

While this summer has gone by way too fast (the kids already start school next Monday!), I have loved the opportunity to give the kids so many cultural and sports activities to enjoy.  Just to give you an idea Sebas has done soccer, general sports, swimming, and ceramics, while Gabi has done tennis, gymnastics, swimming and art.  This last Saturday at the beach Gabi had the opportunity to participate in a workshop by a famous local artist called Marcelo Wong.  I have always loved his work but it´s a bit pricey for me! But his style is just too cute for words. Whimsical is probably the best term I can come up with! I really wish I could put one of his pieces in each room in my new house.


So when Gabi was invited to this workshop we were both super excited.  She didn´t even know why Marcelo Wong was so famous but when he came over to ask her what she wanted to do with her piece she was swooning! :)


She worked on her piece all morning and then at night we went to a little "awards" ceremony where she received her finished piece and took a picture with the artist.  She said "Mom, is Marcelo Wong the first famous person you meet?! I´m so nervous!". Good thing she didn´t drop her piece on the ground I was more nervous about that, another kid dropped it and broke it and my heart broke right along with it.   I can´t wait to find a spot for this in my house once we finally move in... :)

Gigi's Baby Shower

Even though I had barely done any planning with the exception of sending out the Evite , I did manage to pull off a very nice baby shower for Gigi. We did it at Essencha Tea House on Madison because we were too many to do it at the Bonbonerie . I got some decorations at Factory Card Outlet and recycled some other ones from Ida's baby shower last September. We had a great showing and the food at Essencha Tea House was really great. I had to bring Gabi with me because Jose had a soccer game but she did OK, even though she was a little tired because she skipped her afternoon nap. In any case, if anyone has a baby or wedding shower to plan, or just wants to go to eat at a nice place, I highly recommend Essencha Tea House . Oh, and the best part is that they serve breakfast all day, which as any friend of mine can bear witness to, is a HUGE plus for me. Marketing Jobs

In my current job I see a lot of people undergoing job transitions and looking to expand their networks in order to improve their chances of future job placement.  Today I met a very interesting woman who had a very similar profile to mine, minus the international experience.  She wanted to talk to me given my similar profile in Marketing and see how I saw the job market these days. She seemed to think that it's harder and harder to find jobs in Marketing in Peru these days. One of the reasons? It seems that because of the economic downturn and the uncertainty about the election results (sounds just like the US, I know) companies are cutting back on Marketing budgets. Sounds familiar right? DON'T. CUT. BACK. ON. MARKETING. BUDGETS. FOLKS.  Maybe there's some fat that you can trim here and there, maybe you change your marketing vehicles in favor of more cost efficient ones like Digital (and I'm not saying you should), maybe you focus more on Trade Marketing or Price
