Ge's visit



Finally my sister and family have arrived! Last Monday, to kill time (ha ha), we drove 3 hours to Zurich to watch Lady Gaga in concert which was amazing!  Followed by another 3 hour back early Tuesday so that we could be at work all day.

My sister finally arrived on Saturday! As soon as she arrived I took them all home to take quick showers so we could head out to Milan to watch a football (soccer) game for AC Milan (I felt bad for them they were zonked out all day long they didn't sleep very much on the plane and then we had them on a crazy schedule on Saturday!).  The weather was absolutely miserable but somehow we put up with it all day.  I was happy to be able to meet up with an old friend from college who I hadn't seen in about 5 years.  The kids loved the game although everyone was pretty exhausted by the end of the day.  When we woke up Sunday morning we toured Turino which is an absolutely beautiful city (although again more miserable weather!).  Turino is where the Winter Olympics took place right before Vancouver and it's also apparently a great mecca for cinema (and I have always loved the history of cinema since I took this really cool class in college so listening to the bus tour mention all the cinema stories was really interesting).

This morning my sister and family left for Barcelona (so jealous!) and they'll come back on Wednesday so that we can go skiing all Thanksgiving weekend.  I'm not looking forward to packing 7 people + all the very big and poofy skiing gear into the Volvo, but I am looking forward to a wonderful skiing weekend and lots of family time!!!!  Lots of pictures to come.  :)

Gigi's Baby Shower

Even though I had barely done any planning with the exception of sending out the Evite , I did manage to pull off a very nice baby shower for Gigi. We did it at Essencha Tea House on Madison because we were too many to do it at the Bonbonerie . I got some decorations at Factory Card Outlet and recycled some other ones from Ida's baby shower last September. We had a great showing and the food at Essencha Tea House was really great. I had to bring Gabi with me because Jose had a soccer game but she did OK, even though she was a little tired because she skipped her afternoon nap. In any case, if anyone has a baby or wedding shower to plan, or just wants to go to eat at a nice place, I highly recommend Essencha Tea House . Oh, and the best part is that they serve breakfast all day, which as any friend of mine can bear witness to, is a HUGE plus for me. Marketing Jobs

In my current job I see a lot of people undergoing job transitions and looking to expand their networks in order to improve their chances of future job placement.  Today I met a very interesting woman who had a very similar profile to mine, minus the international experience.  She wanted to talk to me given my similar profile in Marketing and see how I saw the job market these days. She seemed to think that it's harder and harder to find jobs in Marketing in Peru these days. One of the reasons? It seems that because of the economic downturn and the uncertainty about the election results (sounds just like the US, I know) companies are cutting back on Marketing budgets. Sounds familiar right? DON'T. CUT. BACK. ON. MARKETING. BUDGETS. FOLKS.  Maybe there's some fat that you can trim here and there, maybe you change your marketing vehicles in favor of more cost efficient ones like Digital (and I'm not saying you should), maybe you focus more on Trade Marketing or Price
