La Cantuta

Sebas' and Gabi's cousin LuisFe (pictured below) turned 3 this weekend and we were invited to spend the weekend in La Cantuta for his birthday party.  La Cantuta belongs to a social club (Club Regatas de Lima) which we are trying to get into which is based in Lima -- although spending is tight these days since I don't have a job yet so we are still OK not paying the entrance fees! However, once we get in it'll be a great place for the kids to do swimming classes, soccer, dance, tennis, etc.  And I can use the gym when the kids are in classes.  Plus they have a great little beach for when it's summer and lots of other things (kids' playgrounds, restaurants, beauty salons, etc.).  So if you live in Lima it's a great place to have access to (the Lima base that is).  I wish we had been able to become members in time for my Mom's visit in October so that I could take her during the day but it looks like it'll have to be next time.

Anyway, La Cantuta is about a 1 hour drive from Lima and the climate is totally different.  Jose and I still marvel at the fact that it can be so cold, misty and wet in Lima and so sunny and warm just one hour away.  We were able to enjoy the sun during the birthday party (the kids ran around in circles for hours and hours) on Saturday and then on Sunday we were able to enjoy some pool time before heading back to Lima.  This will be a great place to get away from the Lima winters for a weekend here and there when we are members.  Once you are a member of Club Regatas de Lima you can enter a lottery to try to get a cabin for any given weekend and once there they also have lots of facilities just like the Lima counterpart (restaurants, gym, pools, mini-golf, racing, a mini zoo, campfires, etc.).

This week I've got a few meetings at Gabi's school (main teacher, computer teacher, etc.) so it'll be busy in the afternoons.  Last Friday I had a meeting with Sebas' teacher and school psychologist and he seems to be acting his usual "school angel" self (i.e. totally different than at home ha ha!).  So I'm happy the kids seem to be getting used to their new schools and behaving well and learning a ton.  I have to say I'm looking forward to the Limean spring and summer (although our summer clothes are still on the boat shipment so clothes-wise we are not prepared!).
